Fungarium Collections Manager

This is an exciting opportunity to join Kew’s Science Collections team, with responsibility for maintaining and developing high standards in the management and care of Kew’s internationally important Fungarium collection, which holds an estimated 1.25 million dried fungi specimens.  It is one of the world’s most comprehensive mycological reference collections, containing many specimens of historical and scientific importance.

As Fungarium Collections Manager you will be responsible for managing and recording scientific specimen transactions to and from the Fungarium, making them available for scientific research both at Kew and institutes worldwide.

You will have a relevant first degree or equivalent experience, with post graduate experience in collections management, be an excellent communicator with the flexibility to manage your own activities and those of a small team. This role requires attention to detail, a proven ability to follow precise procedures and accurately document and track specimen records through appropriate IT tools. You will contribute towards developing policy in order to attain Museum Accreditation and have an understanding of relevant legislation governing the movement of fungal genetic resources. You will follow best practice to conserve and protect the collections with regards decontamination procedures, pest monitoring, ensuring secure specimen storage and correct handling.

Previous experience of working with a preserved fungal collection and an enthusiasm for collections management will be an advantage.

This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.

The salary will be £26,500 – ÂŁ28,912 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
